A 'Day in My Life' as a beginner blogger

A Day in My Digital Life

≈On an average Tuesday≈

Student ID: S00387930

Note****As every day is different and no day is the same, this blog diary follows my average Tuesday. Other days, in my digital life, might look and be completely different to this day.

'6am: I wake up using two types of apps as my alarms; ensuring I wake up – Apple’s ‘Clock’ and ‘Alarm Clock.’  Usually, I change the sounds frequently for each app [as changing sounds regularly ensures my brain doesn’t getting used to sounds – preventing me from sleeping in].

6:10 – 20am: This is where I usually check apps to stay updated on everything – including Gmail, Apple Messages, Facebook, Messenger, Instagram, TikTok, WhatsApp, and sometimes Snapchat or YouTube.  Gmail is generally where I am contacted or I contact others on a professional basis, whereas Apple Messages, WhatsApp, and Messenger is a platform I use to contact my family, friends and other people who I am most close with. Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat, and YouTube are digital platforms I use to stay up to date with media and engage with influencers (or people I barely know personally) as well as make my own content (like Instagram stories) which is generally more for a bit of fun, engagement, and entertainment. Rarely, I will post my own content, and if I do, it’s generally with Instagram stories, or to promote someone else’s business (places I’ve gone to/my reviews of the place/company). Usually, these Instagram stories will automatically be posted to my Facebook stories too.

6:20 – 6:45am: By this time, I almost always play music using the Spotify app. I have a certain playlist that I will play which generally continues until I’ve finished brushing my teeth, showering, drying and brushing my hair, doing my skincare, and getting dressed. There are several moments throughout the day where I am playing music, even if it is just in my background whilst I am performing other tasks.

6:45 – 7:20am: This is the time I spend making my breakfast [if I eat anything at all]. Anything I consume during the day, like breakfast is tracked and logged using the app Cronometer, which is an app that tracks calories, energy, fat, etc in the food that I’m consuming. After this, I put on my Fitbit which is also connected to the Fitbit app on my phone – tracking my daily movement and overall health. My Fitbit will also link via Bluetooth – connecting to my phone.

7:20 – 30am: I spend walking to my personal training (PT) session. I must be completely ready at 7:30 as this is when my program starts. Within this time, I will play music (using Spotify), double check that my Fitbit is set up, see if anyone has tried to contact me (by any of the apps I spoke about), and connect my earphone via Bluetooth to my phone.

7:30 – 8:15am: This is the time I’m at my PT session. Usually, I’m jumping between looking at my Fitbit (to set timers/goals for the workout I’m about to do while also checking my current process) and Spotify whilst also trying to search for the right song for that particular workout that I’m going to do. Usually, I will pick a random playlist or search for individual songs in Spotify’s search bar. After the session has commenced, I will go on the company’s personal app in my phone and rebook another session.

8:15 – 30am: I walk home (usually think takes me between 5 – 10 minutes). I might have a snack which is tracked, using again, the app Cronometer. This is also my break period, where I take a breather – sometimes this will involve opening TikTok and scrolling for half an hour. In between, I will dedicate this time to doing some needed clothes washing. I will set a timer to when the washing is done.

8:30 – 9:30am: This is around the time where I, once again, open Spotify (usually on at a high volume) whilst I clean the house for 40 minutes to an hour. Sometimes I will also connect my music to Google Home. I will also make a ‘to do list’ during this time using the Notes app – generally listed in priority groups for the day, ranging on most importance to less importance.

9:30am – 12:30pm: This is my “dilly dally” side of the day. Most of this time is dedicated to my studies. Since my studies are currently fully online, I have more time digitally to spend doing my university tasks. I will look through the Notes app to see what most needs to get done and work my way through the list. During this time, I might even email my teacher/lecturer via Canvas if I have any questions regarding my work. Most of my work is done through the application Word or PowerPoint (Office 365). I may also open Spotify on my laptop whilst doing my studies – either listening to my usual music or a podcast.

12:30 – 1:00pm: I’ll prepare my lunch and track my intake using Cronometer. Sometimes I will have to open the Safari app to find out the exact amount/weight I have consumed or will open Apple’s Camera app to take a photo.

1:00 – 1:30pm: This time is spent doing extras around the house such as dishes, cleaning surfaces, and more clothes washing. During this time, I am, once again, using the Spotify app, Notes app (checking my ‘to do list’), and checking any messages or emails I might’ve missed.

1:30 – 6:00pm: This period of the day is also dedicated towards my studies – it is usually time spent on catchup work or classes missed. I’ll use Word, [sometimes] PowerPoint, Canvas, Teams, Google (such as for research assignments), and Zoom to watch previous recordings or current if I have a group project meeting with my classmates. I will at some point take a break which I do using my phone and scrolling through social media including Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok. Usually, I will call my mum at some point within the timeframe. In the last 15 – 20 minutes prior to my class (at 6pm), I use this time to get ready for the class, including making sure I have also necessary tabs open on Google, such as Canvas, Teams, and Zoom. I will also open Spotify so I can listen to songs whilst I have a class break (whether this be on my phone or laptop).

6:00 – 8:00pm: I have my mathematics class via Zoom. Zoom has many features that I always use in each class – including the microphone (used for answering questions and communicating with my peers and teacher), the camera (usually I put this on so it’s easier to interact with others), the chat (used for communicating my answers, questions I may have, and interacting with others if I don’t want to use the microphone), reactions (I usually use this to let my teacher/lecturer know that I’m listening), and many other features.

8:00pm – 9:30pm: As soon as class is over, I generally feel overwhelmed since there’s usually a lot of content to over. To relax myself, I will go on social media (mostly TikTok) to take a breather for about 15 minutes. After, I will make dinner and track my food using Cronometer and clean up after whilst listening to a Spotify playlist. At 9pm I get a reminder notification from the P.C. app to take my medication.

9:30pm – 10:30pm: By this time, I am still playing my Spotify music, although I will switch it to my shower playlist which continues until I am done showering, drying and brushing my hair, doing my skincare, getting dressed, and brushing my teeth. At 10:30pm I will get a reminder notification from Alarmy to go to bed.

10:30pm: This is my bedtime. I will often have a one last check of my notifications and 10 minutes of watching TikTok before going to sleep. I will double check my alarms (Apple’s ‘Clock’ and ‘Alarm Clock’) and put my phone on sleep mode, ready to do to sleep. I may also play a sleep playlist on Spotify to help me sleep.
